In the card game Diamonsters, each player starts the game with an identical hand of cards, each of which has a cartoonish picture of a monster and a value from one to five. Each round one card is dealt from the deck face up. Some monsters are more valuable than others, and some eat the diamonds found on other cards. Players attempt to win the round by playing the highest card in front of them, but cards of equal value cancel out. The winner of each round adds his winning card — plus the face-up card — to his collection of cards won. The first player to collect three cards of the same value or five diamonds wins the game.
A good for a laugh Review by LunaReview
Diamonsters is essentially scissors, paper, rock with cards. All the cards trump each other in some way and the last one standing at the end of the round wins a monster card to put in their deck (you win with either 5 points in monster cards, or 3 of a kind).
This is a great and easy one to play with kids, but for two adults is relatively easy. The fun really comes in when you have multiple people playing. Determining who wins the round can be tricky with many players but it's a really fast paced game that gets louder as you go on.
I love the art of this game (same artist as machi Koro I believe) and the monsters have really cute names. My partner and I play this one after a big day when we're a little brain dead, with the nephews/nieces when they visit, or with a group of friends at dinner. You don't need too much space.
My one criticism of this game would be that the diamonds included in the pack look more like plastic ofcuts from another game. (Posted on 28/06/15)
